Membership is open to any Canadian citizen or a Commonwealth subject who is of Federal Voting age. All applications are subject to the General By-Laws of The Royal Canadian Legion and have to be approved by the Branch you wish to join.

  1. Ordinary Membership – Served in Canadian Armed Forces including Regular or Reserve “Class C”; Cadet Instructors on the Cadet Cadre (served at least 1 full year); Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Royal Newfoundland Constabulary; Canadian Coast Guard, City or Municipal Police Force (with 1 full year service);
  2. Associate Membership – Child or adopted child, stepchild, grandchild, sibling, niece, nephew, widow/parent or spouse of a person who is or was eligible for ordinary membership; is the spouse/parent or sibling of an Associate member who qualified under section (a); is the child of an Associate member; served as a Civilian Cadet Instructor (not less than 3 years of service); served in the Sea, Army, or Air Cadets for not less than 3 years; served as an Officer in the Navy League of Canada (served not less than 2 years);
  3. Affiliate Voting Membership – is open to any Canadian citizen or Commonwealth subject who is of Federal Voting age and is not eligible for Ordinary or Associate Membership.
